Queenswood School Overview
Queenswood School is a specialist residential school for girls and boys aged 11 to 19 with behavioural, emotional and social difficulties (BESD). The school provides a warm, welcoming and relaxed environment for young people who are resident within Priory Queenswood residential childcare facilities and who are unable to attend mainstream education because of their behavioural, emotional and social difficulties. Many young people are experiencing a range of difficulties when they first come to the school and have a history of interrupted education. These difficulties are compounded by their disaffection towards learning and their negative attitudes towards authorities and the education system. Our aim is to enable students to acknowledge and cope with their specific difficulties and assist them in fulfilling their potential through providing positive full-time education.
We provide:
- The National Curriculum
- Wide range of educational opportunities including GCSE and other external examinations
- A positive environment to bring about positive change
- Support strategies to develop self-awareness, self-discipline and self-worth
- High staff to pupil ratio
- Clinical and psychological support
- 52 week provision
- Day provision
Placements can either be on a residential or day basis and for up to 52 weeks of the year depending on individual need. Typically young people referred to the school will have a Statement of Special Educational Need and may be looked after children by the local authority. Queenswood School can provide places for up to 16 pupils.
